After the first cut we had realised just how much footage we had filmed and that it was slowing the computer down. As we had cut everything together and it was everything we wanted to do, we wanted to free up space on the computer (so it would speed up) in order for us to grade the material. Thus, with everything in the time line and once checking with tech support that it was possible, we deleted the original footage off the computer we were working on (it was still on the server). However, this did not let our video play and kept replaying the message ‘Source Footage Missing’.
Thankfully the machine had saved the timeline and some of the thumbnails that were attached to each cut piece of footage to serve as a memory jogger, but we had to re-import the source footage into the programme and re-cut it from memory. This, yet again, put us behind schedule, but we managed to do it. It also allowed us to explore other options with the previously editing footage that we wouldn’t have otherwise, such as finding a clip that synced better or that suited the lyrics better. However, this did all come close to deadline and kept us in the editing suit for way too long…
Lesson learnt.
